Description:
Winter wheat is a crop that is planted by the farmers at the end of the growing season. This grain allows the soil to replenish during the winter months. It is referred to as “putting the soil to bed”. Here in New England, fields are surrounded by old rock walls, many crumbling and mostly built in the colonial period.
This work, titled “Winter Wheat”, represents a field with a wide sweep of Naples yellow grain as the subject. Framing the composition with stone walls, gray winter sky and bare branch trees complete the scene. The theme of this work is a time to rest.
