About

Kristina is a self-taught artist, born in 1985, and lives in Canada. Art was a big part of her life right from the beginning. As soon as she could pick up a crayon there was no stopping her. Her family encouraged her to keep up her talent. As a young girl she created much, using mainly pencil crayon and blending colours together as her technique, working along side her Father sharing what he knew as a self taught artist. She was always at the top of the class when it came to art, and that continued on through high school where she participated in art events and earned two honours awards, in visual arts. Kristina works in acrylics and sometimes mixed media. She has also had the opportunity to experiment in photography, which brings much variety to her work. Following her heart, her work has begun to be recognized and appreciated by family , friends and in the public. Much of her inspiration comes from the artist's of old. She has enjoyed studying artists like Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, John Waterhouse, Leonardo da Vinci, Pierre-Auguste Renoir. As well as modern artists such as Lexi Sundell, Daniel Vincent, David Garibaldi, Justin Bua and Linda Shearer to name a few.
"I paint mainly in acrylic on canvas and also enjoy sketching. I cannot imagine my life without painting. Time stops, and I get into a zone. Painting plants me in a world I would live in everyday if I could. I like to create visual poetry that evokes happiness, love, romance, a world that involves all of our senses. Painting allows me to show everything I feel inside, and fills me with a sense of accomplishment. The world around me is full of inspiration. Looking out my window at a clear blue sky or dazzling sunset, or at the brightness and detail of a flower against a dark stormy sky, or lily pads softly floating on a still pond, or the light flutter of a butterfly, the sweetness of dancing, or a romantic proposal. I enjoy using real-life subject matter, but I like to exaggerate and distort it to give an expressive effect. I love using bursts of bright, vivid colours, showing life and energy. I sometimes use a thicker application of paint so my brush strokes are seen, revealing texture. I also appreciate delicate subjects, creating them soft and ethereal. Painting disciplines me to stick to one thing and never quit, which can be difficult in other area's of life. My best work comes from what I feel in the moment, impulse on the subject I am painting, or adding that gut feeling. I want to be able to share the joy art brings me with everyone, and I believe this happens when I share it."
